The long awaited creative project is finally revealed!
I have been waiting for months to share this! This is the creative writing project that I have been working on and alluded to back in January (check-out my January updates here). I have been experimenting with writing poetry throughout the last year and I am so excited to finally be sharing it! It has taken me awhile to feel ready to publish my pieces but also trying to figure out what was the best format to share them in. Honestly, who knows if this is the best way, but I just couldn’t wait any longer. And so, I am launching a new blog column – Poems by H.B.L. – where I will be publishing my original poetry.
These poems will break up my other blog posts and allow for a different writing format to explore experiences and ideas, they will also be accompanied by a visual art piece or photograph. I am planning to release a new poem about once a month.
I won’t say exactly what day each month as I only want to publish works that I am proud of and that I think you will enjoy, not just create content to have content, if that makes sense. Quality over quantity. It takes time to write and edit poems as well as create the visual components that go along with them and I want to be very thoughtful in this process.
Writing poems for me is almost a meditative experience, where I get really quiet and focus in on an experience, thought, or something I am observing. I find it therapeutic and calming. I want my words to capture those feelings, moments, and observations and be able to share them with others. I want my words to give vivid descriptions that are really able to transport the reader.
My poems will not only focus on mental health and wellness but will include that too. Many will be observations of nature as well as meditations on other every day life occurrences.
My goal with this project more than anything is to further develop my poetry writing and hopefully along the way write some interesting poetry that others can enjoy. My long-term goal would be to maybe someday publish a book of poems, but that’s still in dreaming stages for now.
It feels incredible (and a little bit scary) to finally be able to hit that publish button. I can’t wait to bring you all along for this next journey and to see what you think of them. I look forward to your comments, thoughts, and feedback.
Come back this Wednesday March 10th, 2021 for the first poem to be published!
