You’ve been gone so long
it makes me wonder sometimes
if you ever really were.
A distant memory now
that someone could almost make me believe
you were just a figment of my vivid imagination.
And yet,
deep in my bones,
in the pit of my stomach,
I know that you were.
Without a doubt,
you were here.
Right here.
Tangible,
living and breathing.
And being the magical you that you were.
We are travelling further apart through time for now.
But someday,
I think,
our timelines might cross again.
When time comes full circle at the end.
Will you still recognize my face?
Will I still be the me that you knew?
Or, will I seem a stranger with familiar eyes?
But you,
you will be the you that I remember.
I was there after all,
right there,
with you on the last day.
You were.
