Life Update: Where Have I Been?

A little life update with what’s been going on and where I’ve been.

Hello Friends,

it’s been awhile since I have been regularly posting and I thought I would write a little life update to let you know why. Some of the reasons are happy and others not so much, but I hope you’ll stick around for this update anyway.

So, after my summer holiday where I took two weeks away from writing and posting here, I had big hopes to come back even stronger and really push myself with my writing. I had all of these posts sitting in my drafts and I was finally going to publish them. Well, most of those drafts are still sitting there waiting to be published and I have honestly barely touched them since this summer.

In September, my husband and I bought our first home! It was a fast, intense, scary, and exciting experience. I guess I underestimated just how much time the home buying process would take, but more importantly how much it would occupy my mind. Between visiting properties, scouring listings, and then the actual offer and bank processes it was pretty much all I could think about for weeks. We will be moving in the month of November and so I have been busy packing and cleaning to get ready for the move. Everything is a mess at the moment. We are excited and very grateful to finally have a place of our own after renting for the last 7+ years, I know this is not something that is available to many people and we are very lucky to be able to do this. Once we move in, I am hoping to share some pictures of the space with you and potential DIYs. I may also share some of my thoughts on the home buying experience and some first timer advice (although I’m no expert by any means).

In October, after securing the purchase of our home, I managed to completely destroy my laptop. Some of you may have already heard the story on my Instagram (@hblogz), but needless to say I had to salvage all of my files (I had not backed up my computer) and then get a new computer. All of which did not make writing and posting very easy in the meantime with my files all over the place.

Right after I destroyed my laptop, our dog Holly got really sick. She picked up some kind of gastro-intestinal infection which actually led to some serious liver damage. At the time I am writing this, she is slowly on the mend but we still don’t know if the liver damage will be permanent. I cried for days as I thought the worst was imminent as she lay there on the floor lethargic, refusing to eat, and acting like a completely different dog. It’s still possible she may have a shortened lifespan, or permanent damage, only time will tell. I will keep you all updated as we learn more.

We took this photo in case the worst was in fact happening and wanted to make sure we captured a last photo of our sweet girl.

In addition to all of this, there have been some big changes at my 9-5 job that I have been navigating. I’m sure many of you are in similar situations in this sort-of-post-pandemic world. There is just so much in-flux and unknown, so many of us are developing new routines, procedures, and ways of working yet again.

With all of these things going on, my mental health has really suffered. And because of that, I haven’t had time or much energy to dedicate to my writing. My mind has felt foggy and jumbled. It has been very difficult trying to navigate all of these things at the same time, there has just been too many big decisions, disorganization and uncertainty in my life these last couple of months. So I hope you can understand why I have been absent on here.

Our eldest Imp who has been with us through every move since adopting her in 2nd year University.

That said, I still very much want to continue publishing my writing and engaging with you all. And I still have lots of content just sitting in my drafts. So, moving towards the holidays, I hope to post more content for you all and I hope you are still around to read it. I do love writing and I love sharing it with others.

How have you been doing in the last few months? Are you struggling with big life events too? I hope you are finding ways to navigate all of the hard things life can throw at us.

Write soon,

Hannah B.L.
